About the Henry Street Heritage Festival
The Henry Street Heritage Festival is the premier event of the Harrison Museum of African American Culture. The public festival celebrates the history, culture, heritage, and arts of African Americans. Festival goers will find a diverse offering of arts and entertainment in which to participate including national and local talent; educational and historical exhibits; interactive children’s area; as well as arts and crafts from a wide range of vendors, community organizations, and merchants.
Past Henry Street Heritage Festival performers include Kevin L., Emily King, Rob Base, Victor Fields, Rare Essence, Donna Jones, The Barkays, Ruben Studdard, Joe, Mint Condition, Calvin Richardson, Algebra, Lacee, just to name a few.

We are showcasing TEN local and regional experienced amateur talent in the Roanoke Valley for competition and prizes at the Henry Street Heritage Festival.

Sweet Potato Pie Bake-off
Purpose:To involve the community in a participatory activity of the Henry Street Heritage Festival.Scope: A Sweet Potato Pie Bake-off contest will take place during the Henry Street Heritage Festival event September 17, 2011. See-through canisters will be placed by each pie stand for the public to vote with tickets for their favorite tasting pie. The People’s Choice Award of the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners will be determined by the largest amount of tickets through the voting. An overall Judges’ Choice Award will be given for the best of all entries.
Prize Amounts:
- People’s Choice Awards 1st prize = $75; 2nd prize = $50; 3rd prize $25 plus ribbons.
- Overall Judges’ Choice Award – $100 plus trophy
